INFATUATE: Palm Springs Prep

A few weeks ago I took a trip down to Palm Springs and I can't wait to get back. The California prep vibe really impressed me and people were styling all over the place. The transition from the dry heat during the day to the cool of the desert night surely requires a sunset wardrobe change.

ENDORSE: Norman and Paul Maclean

As I was cleaning out my storage closet I came across one of my favorite books, A River Runs Through It. Norman Maclean's short story is amazing and vivid, and it brings you back to a lost era. If you aren't a reader, the movie is not too bad either. The brothers sense of style certainly comes across in the book but is most definitely registered in the movie. As you can see, many of the menswear trends that were popular in the 1920's are just as recognizable today.

"Like many fly fisherman in western Montana where the summer days are almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise. Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters."

Norman Maclean - "My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night. But ah my foes, and oh my friends - it gives a lovely light."

Paul Maclean - "Oh, I'll never leave Montana, brother."

Below is some gear to transform you into a modern day Maclean brother - An urban fly fisherman.
